collections?
Q. If you are in collections for how long can it show up on your credit report? And what happens after that certain time? Does your credit report clean up again?
Asked by marcela r - Wed Jun 13 09:02:08 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They will be on your report for 7 years from the date of the last payment. If you left the debt on the account it looks really bad. If you have paid the debt off, it just shows that it went to collections, but that you took care of it. This looks better to potential creditors.

How are the collections and purchases schedules related to the borrowing needs of the corporation?
Q. Explain how the collections and purchases schedules are related to the borrowing needs of the corporation.
Asked by dejoe1989 - Sat Jul 18 04:42:15 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's all about cash flow. When the company pays for purchases, cash flows out. When the company collects, cash flows in. During times when there is not enough cash coming in to cover the purchase needs, the company will need to borrow to cover the difference. It depends on the collection schedule when, and for how long, to borrow for current operating needs.

Is it legal for a collections company to access my credit report?
Q. I got a letter from a collections company saying I needed to contact them or my current credit score, XXX, might be negatively affected. Is that legal? I understand that having a collections action filed against me will impact my credit score. But I thought that if a company looks up my credit score (like a credit card application), my credit can be negatively affected. So it seems like I might get hit twice here. . . since they quoted my credit score AND apparently have filed a collections claim.

A. When a collection agency is "shopping" for bad debts, they are allowed to access reports as a soft inquiry. When a collection agency purchases the bad debt, they can pull a hard inquiry. What stinks is that if they are really twisted, (if they own the debt) they will pull a hard inq. once a month (or more) Just to put the pressure on the debtor, or, more than likely, just for grins.

What court order would a collections agency file and what if it's undeliverable?
Q. In the State of California, if someone owes money to a creditor and the debt has been passed on to a collections agency, at what point would the debt collector ask for a court order and what would that entail? What would happen if they were unable to deliver the court order? How might the court order be removed before actually having to appear?
Asked by Staci A - Wed Apr 8 00:23:57 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depending upon the type of debt, they have a certain time limit (varies by state) to file a court order for a judgment against you. Simply filing the paperwork with supporting documents stating that you owe the debt is usually enough. They have a limited number of attempts to contact you for delivery. It's either 3 or 5 attempts. If they can't deliver, it will be presumed by the court that you are avoiding the problem and that delivery and receipt is presumed completed. It won't be removed. The creditor will get a default judgment against you.

What numerical affect will a collections report have on a credit score?
Q. If someone has a credit score of 750 and gets sent to collections what will their credit score look like? I want a numerical answer and not one of those "it stays on there 7 years" responses. I know that once you pay it off you can dispute it, how do you go about doing that?
Asked by (TxT) - Fri Sep 25 17:42:13 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There isn't a one size fits all answer. If you had one credit card that you used over the past 2 years and no other loans and that credit card went to collections, your credit score will likely drop well over 100 points. However, if you had and used several credit cards along with several other loans over 7 years, the affect may possibly be less than 50 points.

Can my old apartments legally hand over my debt to collections after failing to send me a bill?
Q. We broke the lease but before hand had worked out with the management what we would have to pay. They told us that after we received the bill (yes we gave them the new address) we could come in and start making payments. They said as long as we made payments they wouldn't send it to collections. Instead we got a letter in the mail from a collections company.
Asked by mcygee - Tue Jun 2 21:59:43 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In times like this when you're mentioning about the breaking of a lease, always make sure that you get something in writing. Also, before you sign a contract, also make sure that you carefully read the fine print before you sign the lease. But in a case like this, when you have got nothing in writing, and it was just verbally, then they can say one thing, and then do something completely different.

Are you required to received notice that an account is going to collections?
Q. The situation, 2003 taxes prepared by H&R Block. An error was made on the local taxes and I took taxes back to them and they said they took care of it. Six months later I received another notice from local tax authority that they never recieved payment and were charging me fees, including sending the account to collections. But I never received a notice they were sending it to collections. Do I have any power to fight paying the collections charges since I received no notice? Further, H&R block will not pay anything! I have talked to managers, etc. Beware of them, their guarantee is faulty! This occured in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Asked by MTASCP - Tue Mar 6 14:30:02 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No. When you filed in '04, '05 you should've had some indication that these taxes were still owed. Go to www.irs.gov, type states in the search box, click on the link to your State. There should be contact information to speak to a human. Find out all you can, and ask for copies of what they show is owed... good luck & bless

What is the difference between fashion lines and collections?
Q. I'm doing a project on Chanel and I need to list her lines of products. I was just wondering if lines and collections are the same thing? If not could you please give me examples of each? Thanks so much!
Asked by Linny - Thu Feb 28 20:38:35 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A line is a different tier of the brand i.e. Gap has Old Navy. A collection refers to a theme - winter collection, casual wear collection and so forth. In the instance of Chanel, a line would have been perfume, a collection would have referred to a "season".

After a collections agency agrees to settle; can they legally change the amount?
Q. I recently settled with a collections agency for 60% of the amount owed on a debt. The next day the lady calls me back and says that they actually can't settle for that amount and it has to be 80%. She says she wasn't supposed to settle for 60% and she almost lost her job because of it. They've already billed me for the 60%. So my question is: Is this legal?
Asked by Sean Fuller - Mon Mar 22 12:33:09 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Did you get the agreement in writing signed by the authorized agent of the collection agency? If so then no she can not do so, they will have to accept the 60%, if you failed to get your agreement in writing or have no proof of the agreement, then yes they will change the deal on you!

Can a collections department for a company contact your job once asked not too?
Q. I have a collections department calling my manager at my workplace and i asked them not too and I am in jeopardy of losing my job.Is this illegal for a company to do that?
Asked by smooveman32 - Sat Oct 10 13:58:04 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is illegal, but that doesn't mean they will follow through. Collection agencies are notorious for doing things they aren't allowed to do or things that are against the law. The best thing you can do is report them to the FTC, seriously. I had one calling for my grandmother earlier this year. She died 2 years ago. They kept calling and calling and calling. They threatened us. We reported them to the FTC and they went away.

How hard is to recover from bad credit card collections?
Q. Ok if you have a credit card go into collections 6 months ago, and have another credit card that is basically maxed and you don't wont to make the several hundred dollar a month minimum so you stop paying. In 3 months its sent to collections so you then work with the collection agencies on both cards and get them squared away. How long will it take you to get to a good rating if you do everything right with your credit from here on out. I know 7 years clears a bankruptcy, but this isn't a bankruptcy.
Asked by Adam H - Tue Oct 13 12:43:45 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It will take quite some time. Both of those collections can legally be listed on your credit report for 7 years. Assuming you acquire some more credit and manage it responsibly as time passes and you manage your credit well the effect of those collections will lessen but they will continue to be a drag on your score until they age off.

How long does a small collections amount stay on your credit report?
Q. I checked my wife's credit report and she has a small collections amount of $23. She was unaware of it and thinks it may have been from her divorce. She thinks her ex-husband never took care of it or failed to provide the bill to her. I'm paying it off so that it's taken care of but wonder how long it will be on her credit report. With it being paid off now, is it going to hurt her credit for the next 7 years?
Asked by Sean R - Wed Jul 9 21:31:06 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Before you just cut them a check, try to negotiate a pay for deletion arrangement with them. They'll probably take it. They'll get paid and your wife will get her credit cleaned.

How can I remove a collections debt from my credit?
Q. I have an outstanding balance of $200 because a paramedic checked out my arm after a car accident. Any idiot could have checked my arm the way he did so it should have been free anyways. I thought the insurance took care of that whole thing and paid them and now I have a letter that says I owe $200 to collections. Should I pay cash and work out a deal to remove it from my record? Should I make the insurance company pay it and ask for it to be removed? What are my options?
