Why have a coroner inquest then instruct the jury not to rule unlawful killing?
Q. He told jurors they will only be allowed to return a verdict of lawful killing or an open verdict. Having considered all the evidence, a verdict of unlawful killing was "not justified", Sir Michael said. what was the point of the inquest if you instruct the jury as to what you want to hear?
Asked by 2010 - Tue Dec 2 11:34:53 2008 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Because they were going to give the wrong response and make the government and the met look bad. Seeing as that can't happen they have been instructed as to what verdict to give. You know, like what happens in those pillars of democracy and freedom, North Korea or Iran.

Q. I want to my write dissertation on the John Lees Inquest after the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 but can't seem to find any books with much detail about the inquest. A. If you have about 300 to spend there's a copy on Abebooks, secondhand book dealers! The only other one I could find is from the Historic Society of Lancashire transactions Vol 148. Selling at 16.00 but it's not clear whether it's the full details or just a discussion on it. You would need to contact them to find out. Have you tried contacting Manchester Libraries to see if they have any suggestions? I think they have a Peterloo Massacre collection

Q. I'm trying to obtain records pertaining to an Inquest that was done on an ancestors death. He lived/it happened in Los Angeles, CA in around 1925. Does anyone have any ideas on who to contact or what do to in order to find out how this relative died? Thanks for any help!

A. Inquest records are usually filmed and then destroyed. They should be held by either the County's coroner's office or the California State Archives. According to the manual at the link below, they should be holding all records of inquests since 1914. Start by calling the LA Coroner's Office and asking where to send the record request and how much it will cost. Also ask if they have a public viewing room where you can go in and view it yourself...saves you all the copying and postage costs if you're still local. (323) 343-0512 You can also send an email to Martha Grigsby, the Records Supervisor at: mgrigsby@coroner.co.la.ca .us Tell them the name of the person who died and the approximate date of death. They'll send back a reply with… [cont.]

A. Who needs an expensive inquest? The drunk driver crashed the car, the only person who was wearing a seat belt is the only one that is alive today. Conclusions: 1. Don't drink and drive; It's incredibly dangerous. 2. Seat belts save lives. There I've just saved the tax payer a fortune on an expensive inquest.

When will the Princess Diana inquest end what are they hoping to find at the end of it, Dodi's dodi ?
Q. Im sick of hearing about this what is the point in dragging this up over and over again. Why do these people insist on doing this ?
Asked by Stormy in the North................ - Fri Dec 14 16:23:50 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It will end when Dodi's father accepts that in life there is death. He needs help to deal with his grief. To lose a child unexpectedly and so tragically is sometimes too much for anybody to handle and often they deny the grief by searching for a reason, for some one to blame and some one to be angry with rather than dealing with the emotions. The driver was drinking, they were driven too fast, an accident happened and people died. It was sad and he really should move on and devout his time and money to having laws changed that would prevent the media from harassing and endangering the safety and health of celebrities and others.

Q. When there is an inquest regarding someones death are the results public information?
Asked by NIGHTOWL - Tue Oct 2 19:19:03 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, the results are made public, but not all inquests are subject to the same level of scrutiny. Straightforward cases, such as non-suspicious deaths after terminal illnesses, may be dealt with by the coroner alone. Where there is likely to be a wider public interest then it is likely that the coroner will convene a jury, and they will hear evidence in a way reminiscent of a court of law (though a coroner's court is not a criminal court). A current example of the latter is the inquest into the deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Fayed. In either case, the results are always public, even if the proceedings are not.

Q. The media uses pictures and stories to exploit celebrities without thinking of consequences or whether it will upset others. For example there are so many stories about Diana which must be upsetting for her two sons.
