why are tagalogs, cebuanos ilonggos, waray, kapampangan, ilokanos, bikolanos, etc., considered indigenous people?
Q. just because most of them are christians doesn't make them foreigners to the philippines. the indigenous people's act of 1997 should have been "not considered." if they become christians do they lose their indigenous status?

A. Probably because that law was written by Tagalogs, Cebuanos, Ilonggos, etc. My Dictionary defines the word as "originating in and typical of a region or country" But lawmakers have a penchant for redefining words to fit their every whim and caprice, and thus, I think our colleague, Champagne, had the good grace to supply this page with what they mean. However they word the law, we citizens must abide, whether indigenous or not: "The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."

A. Ilocano = they sound so different Kapangpangan = they make good tocino manilenyo = a melting pot of every kind of filipino, with a very strong american influence bikolano = I've never met one bisaya = they tend to have very fair skin, not as rural as they're stereotyped to be waray = very aggressive (I'm basing that one from watching Maricel Soriano movies, never met one in real life) ilonggo = never met one cebuano = someone who likes the beach taga siudad = out of touch with the rural community taga bukid = someone who carries the true virtues of a filipino muslim = unfairly scrutinized balik bayan = hardworkers
